about zander

growing up in the suburbs of new york, my family raised me to emphasize compassion and community, (as being a girl scout can do). these seeds started to sprout getting my bfa in film at suny purchase college as I took steps toward transitioning and living as my authentic self. over the many seasons life brings, I continue to settle into my being more and more, while honoring the interpersonal relationships that influence my life.

currently working as a Community Organizer for the Sacred Community Project, and as a literacy tutor for the Children's Dyslexia Center of New York City.

unearthing what I can now call my spiritual home during the 2020 COVID lock-down, fostering my connection with divinity has become a central force in my life.

guided by the core teachings of love, service, rememberance, and truth from Sri Neem Karoli Baba and Sri Siddhi Ma – alongside global influence from Khandro-La and Mata Amritanandamayi – endless local satsang inspiration from Krishna Das, Nina Rao, Sitaram Dass, Devadas, and La Sarmiento, to name a few – and civil rights activists like bell hooks and ALOK Viad-Menon.

My communication strategy is always based on truth. Speaking from a place of authenticity to move toward mutual understanding.

Accessibility lies at at the center of each of my endeavors, making sure to break through the barriers of red tape perpetuated by a misplaced focus on capital gain. This is realized through fostering diverse collaborations, and striving to offer opportunities with fair compensation for all.

intentions

I hope to reflect the complexity of our human experience by creating media that features honest stories through honest collaboration. It's vital that trans and non-binary folks are not only represented and understood on screen, through music and in spiritual circles, but warmly welcomed and stood up for in all contexts.

When fostering connection, I strive to keep open lines of communication while meeting people on even ground. I aim to divide power equally among participating parties, and when that's not possible, to be clear about any imposed power structions.

I acknowledge that I am always learning and try to grow through every encounter and experience.

I know that many issues films address have been going on for much longer than one particular film's timeframe. That doesn't mean we can't find a way to use a film as a tool as part of the conversation.
